The Deception of my Mind

December 13, 2005

My mind amazes me.   It is a slippery slope of self-will, egomaniacal random thoughts, deep desires for security and lasting happiness, regret, and hope.  It seems hard to get a real grasp on it all.  My mind is being renewed, but there is still that something inside me that has a will of it’s own.  A will to sin.  But also a will to please God.  It’s difficult to understand why someone who has been as blessed as I am would ever choose a lower road. I often ask myself why God hasn’t just killed me, or at least given up on me.

I know that He loves me.  I didn’t choose Him.  I didn’t go looking for Him.  I was living a life of rebellion in the very things that God hates.  And He came to me.  He interrupted my life.   He woke me up.  Why?  I was not worth saving.  I was not worth pursuing.  There are so many others that have so much more to offer.  But here I sit.  His child.  Amazing.  Hard to believe.  But true.  There is a reality to my relationship with Him.  But there is also the sad reality of sin and what to do about it.  If you would have asked me thirty years ago if this new life I was living would entail a thirty year struggle with sin, I would have laughed.  You couldn’t have paid me to go back to that life.  And I haven’t.  Except to taste it now and then, here and there.  I know all of the theological answers.  I have been pastoring for over twenty years.  I  have taught people how to overcome sin.  The answer is in the cross.  There is a reality and a power there that I have experienced.  But I also find myself having to go back there again and again.  What a patient God.

The Amazing Weathermen

December 12, 2005

It boggles the mind how often the weather guy if wrong.  Just an educated guess, but they always hover around mediocrity.  If they can’t get it right, why don’t they just admit it.  Reminds me of the fashionable predictions about global warming.  These people have no real idea whether or not there have been any significant changes that are directly attributable to man.

Kinda like the theory of evolution.   How many have hung onto that like a bunch of mindless doofs.  I remember reading in my science books when I was little and looking at pictures with captions below them saying things like, “200 million years ago…”  I always thought, “How do they know?”  They weren’t there.  And no matter how many tests they come up with, the scientists seem to have no credible way of dating anything.  Perhaps they will get there one day, but it seems to me like we have the cart before the horse.  We assume the earth is millions of years old and then set out to prove our theory, instead of looking at the facts and building on the knowledge we definitely have.

Anyway, this world is nuts.  I can’t fathom how people get trapped in their ideaology.  Yeah, I have one, but it changes.  You look at the facts and make judgements.  If somebody disagrees, so be it.   Peer pressure definitely seems to have a bearing on it.  Not alot of people take unpopular stands wherever they are.  Why is that?

I have a son in college and he has his own views, which are contrary to some of his professors, and their response is often belittlement.  Don’t they have enough knowledge in their head to answer the questions of a young student?  It seems that there is a stronghold of elite thinking that envelopes alot of professors.  They get some young student to believe their stuff and they become weathermen I guess.

Hello world!

December 11, 2005

This is going to be fun, because I get to air my brain out when faced with the craziness of this mixed up chaotic world.  I am a Christian.  I  am a Republican.  I am a preacher.  I am half nuts.  See ya
